International Festival of Music and New Technologies, Visiones Sonoras, 2019 edition. 


The National School of Higher Studies (ENES), Campus Morelia, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Ministry of Culture of Michoacán (SECUM) and the National Center for the Arts (CENART), through the Mexican Center for Music and Sound Arts (CMMAS) present the opportunity for researchers, students, composers, sound and audiovisual creators to participate in the ", Visiones Sonoras Electroacoustic Composition Meeting" taking place from September 25th – 28th, 2019.

Aiming to promote an interdisciplinary environment, in this edition of the Meeting we welcome composers, sound or audiovisual creators, as well as researchers and interpreters of any age and nationality, who have developed their artistic work or research projects through the use of of new technologies.


Visiones Sonoras aims to become a space for reflection and communication to promote research and sound creation with new technologies, focusing on the use of sound as an expressive vehicle, in an open and inclusive conversational context. Visiones Sonoras seeks to consolidate itself as an artistic-academic event that aims to promote the release of projects and sound or audiovisual works of any language, that use new technologies in a creative way. Coordinated by CMMAS, the event will be held mainly ENES, , UNAM, Campus Morelia, in order to promote academic links between students and researchers from Mexico and abroad.


Modes of participation

In this edition, candidates are invited to be part of the "Visiones Sonoras, Electroacoustic Composition Meeting" in only one of the following forms of participation:

1. Attendance to the Meeting.

Those selected will be able to attend for free all of the academic and artistic activities that take place during the Festival.

2. Presentation of academic work.

Those selected, in addition to receiving all the benefits of "Attendance at the Meeting" may have a brief presentation of 15 minutes related to their work. This presentation may contain musical and/or sound references of your creation, but it is not a space for a concert or to present complete pieces. In special cases you can request a presentation of up to 30 minutes.

This academic presentation intends to stimulate an active participation of the selected candidates in order to promote new and innovative works and ideas, as well as to encourage interaction with a community of professionals in constant development.


Documentation. General conditions.

All interested parties must submit the documentation that is detailed below: 

• Curriculum vitae containing the following information: 

• full name, email, cell phone, age, place of birth, place of residence and work experience with technology and electroacoustic / experimental music. 

• A representative sample of her/his work in the field of music 

• electroacoustic/experimental and/or sound creation, audiovisual or with new technologies in any of the formats accepted in the call. 

• Letter in which you commit, if selected, to attend all the academic and artistic activities (concerts and conferences) of the Festival in the city of Morelia, Michoacán.

Those who wish to apply for the "Presentation of Academic Work" modality, should include a summary of 200 words of the work that would be presented in the 15-minute presentation. If you require up to 30 minutes please add detailed reasons and relevant justification.

The documentation must be sent in digital format, in accordance with the following specifications:

• Image files in format: .jpg

• Audio files in format: .mp3

• Video files in format: .mov or Mpeg4

• Text files and scores in format: .doc, .docx, .txt or .pdf


Submission Process

The materials to be applied in the "Attendance" and "Presentation of academic work” modes should be sent in digital format only through the website, following the next steps: Section Activities> Project Submission> Register Project> Category: Visiones Sonoras Encuentro 2019, fully complying with the formats specified in the "Documentation" section. 

• Submissions will not be accepted by postal mail, email or download links. 
• Applicants who are selected will be announced on Friday July 12, 2019, through the Festival website: 

and through the CMMAS website: and will have the obligation to confirm their attendance through a registration of participation no later than Thursday, August 1st. 
Also, those selected will receive an email to the address they have used to register their application.

Selection process

-The Selection Committee of the 2019 edition will consist of composers and artists with extensive experience in the fields of electroacoustic music and audiovisual creation, as well as by members of CMMAS, who will participate in the different activities of the Festival.

-The number of participants in the Meeting will depend on the spaces and characteristics of the Festival. Candidacies that are not accepted do not imply a disqualification of the candidate's work.

-The Festival will receive as many applicants as possible, but those applicants who have not been selected will be welcome to all the activities and concerts.

-The following criteria, among others, will be considered for evaluation purposes: 
In the case of applicants to the "Presentation of academic work in the Meeting" mode, the quality, relevance and clarity of the proposed projects will be taken into account, as well as the feasibility of their presentation requirements.

The decision of the Committee will be final and unappealable. 
Any case not foreseen in this call will be resolved by the Committee.


The deadline to receive materials from the participants will be Friday, June 21, 2019.

Important information for participants:


All the selected participants will be able to participate without cost in the Electroacoustic Composition Meeting in any of the two modalities.

All the expenses of transportation, accommodation and meals will be paid by the participant. The CMMAS will not be able to support any kind of expense in this edition of the event.

The CMMAS and Visiones Sonoras may issue invitation letters so that the selected participants can request financial assistance for their trip to Morelia. This letter must be requested once the selected list has been published and their participation confirmed no later than Friday, August 1.

The activities of the Meeting will take place in Morelia, Michoacán, in various venues, but mainly at UNAM, Campus Morelia, located at: Antigua Carretera a Pátzcuaro 8701, Col. Ex Hacienda de San José de la Huerta, C.P. 58190, September 25th – 28th, 2019
